Minecraft. Just saying the name makes fans around the world happy. This phenomenon known as Minecraft has swept the world, and is likely to increase in popularity. But what does this say about games of today and games of tomorrow?

Minecraft is a game about mining. There isn’t too many materials in the world that you cannot harvest and then use one way or the other. You can build houses, you can build traps. You can get to the bottom of the earth or climb into the clouds. It is open ended, and is only limited by your imagination.

The moooing will drive you nuts.

There is plenty of peril. Anything from falling off a mountain, being trapped under sand, or being blown up by a mob, it is easy to die in Minecraft. I have checked Youtube and subscribe to a couple of the Minecraft let’s play videos. There are huge fan bases for people like SeaNanners (Welcome To Minecraft), Davidr64yt (X’s Adventures In Minecraft) and Coestar (Coe’s Quest.)

But what is the future of Minecraft? The popularity seems to be increasing, and, the company who made it, Mojang, are constantly putting out new updates and new features. One of the most recent features in the bay till 1.3 is a bed to sleep through the night. Because monsters spawn at night, and it allows the player to skip a most gruesome death.

There are tons of mods out there on the inter-webs, people can’t seem to get enough of it. People want more animals, like in the Mo’ creatures mod, and different texture packs like the Painterly Pack.

This has death written all over it.

Right now, some folks from Mojang are off to GDC. I would be willing to bet that when they return they will be fresh faced and ready to add tons of new, interesting, and a bug filled content. Minecraft is available for purchase and download, but there is an out dated free version for people to get their feet wet.  In the coming few hours many will start to look for the Audi a7 Twilight and True Blood LED Streaming Headlights 2012 Super Bowl XLVI Commercial.  Remember that there are many YouTube channels that will help fans watch this particular Super Bowl Ad.

The Game Developer Conference of 2011 is coming in two days and people are feverishly wondering, what will happen? There will be all sorts of things to do. There will be tutorials, sessions, and various booths to check out

The GDC will be going from February 28 to March 4, 2011. The Expo will go from March 2-4. Summits and tutorials will start on February 28 and will run until March 1, and the main GDC will be March 2-4.

There are multiple passes that can be purchased for mission, but space tends to run up quickly. Once that mission is purchased and uniquely airbags, you’ll have to collect your badge on-site. They will not be mailed.

For those attending the GDC, good times should be had by all. It is recommended to seek out as many new things as possible, chat with people at various booths, and refrain from drinking heavily and committing acts not appropriate for a developer conference.

Little Big Planet 2 is set to expand on the original. There is a significantly larger amount of things to do and create. There is also more freedom with the integration of PlayStation move controls. This new edition will have a unique story mode and your little sack boy will have even more to explore and play. This time around, the level designs will be based off of cultural high points in history.

The control over your controller has also changed. You can reset the controller buttons for any object and change the rules to any level through something being implemented called Direct Control. Levels will now be able to be linked together and provide longer gameplay experiences.
There are more than 40 story levels across six themes. There is a four player off-line/online mode for multiplayer. There are new gadgets to equip like a grappling hook. Even create a full scale games of your own. There are AI sacbots, cinematic cut scenes makers, and you have a complete unique-based materials with a selection of filters, and dangerous plasma to add to the fire and electricity is already there. You’ll have the opportunity for a more multiplayer action and LBP 2 is trophy supported.
Little Big Planet 2 for the PS3 is available for pre-order and will be released January 31, 2011.

I remember watching The Last Star Fighter and waiting for the game to accidentally show up in my home town. It should be no surprise it never did. I slowly came to the sad realization I would never get to play the game that could decide the fate of the universe.

Luckily, the crushed dreams of a child can be reversed thanks to technology. The site Rogue Synapse has a download of The Last Star Fighter and I may have my chance at piloting one of the fantastic ships.  They also have some great pictures. Unfortunatly I am running my Mac and I will have to do a bit of tweaking to get the .exe to work, so I am a bit SOL for now.

With a little faith, and maybe a partitioned hard drive, I might still have a chance. I really hope they included the “special button”. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, you probably shouldn’t be reading this. Go out and rent The Last Star Fighter and prepare to have your life changed for ever.
